GROWTH

In our current September issue - with the theme of Growth, we suggest there is some joy to be found in the simple act of growing a citrus plant from seed, with some tips we picked up on how to go about it.

While it may indeed be an apparently simple process, with the opportunity to watch an especially verdant form of life happen in front of your eyes, here in the UK conditions are not optimum for growing a citrus, especially with an absence of a greenhouse - it's all very hit and miss.

Apart from the very obvious link to the theme of Growth, inherent within this windowsill process are further opportunities for reflection: on the conditions for growth requiring the death of one thing to produce something new; on the need for nurturing, with no guarantee of a particular outcome, let alone success.

It increasingly seems to me that growth is something that happens around us and in us on a continuous basis, our choice being either to join in and explore or instead do nothing. The latter seems a bit of a shame.

Right, some of our leaves are looking a bit dodgy, I'm off to look up what, if anything, can be done about it - certainly overwatering hasn't helped.......
