SILENCE

EXPERIENCES OF SILENCE

Moments of silence Kerry experienced and tried to capture.

EVENSONG

I produced this piece as a direct response to the amount of attention we have been giving to the Silence theme.

I was looking along the street where we live and realised what I was seeing engendered in me the same sense of a slightly deadening silence - an 'uneasy peace' that I used to experience on a Sunday afternoon as a child, waiting for Evensong - the early evening service at church that as a choirboy I would have to attend.

The street scene in question contains some, but not all of the elements you see here - the view served as inspiration, I saw my job as selecting the bits that would best create the feeling I wanted to engender in myself as well as the viewer.

And all of that happened because I had been carrying with me an awareness of the various forms of silence that we can experience, sometimes simultaneously, sometimes with sufficient power to carry forward 40+ years.
